Topping Out Cerenomy

Hotel Schani Wien Topping Out Ceremony

The topping out ceremony for Hotel Schani Wien was carried out in the presence of the owners, all the members of the project, and several local district politicians. Construction progress at Hotel Schani Wien is going ahead as planned, resulting in the completion of the building’s structural work. Much to the team’s delight, the hotel has already received its first accolade – it was presented the GreenBuilding Award by the European Commission in August.

The outer shell of Hotel Schani Wien was finished a few days ago, when contractor Mag. Benedikt Komarek cast the last piece of concrete to finish off the roof. This was a welcome occasion to hold the traditional topping out ceremony yesterday evening and also means the building work is already half completed: construction work began in March 2014 with the excavation of the construction site and the topping out ceremony was held yesterday. In another six months from now, Hotel Schani Wien will welcome its first guests.

Managing Director Mag. Benedikt Komarek expressed his thanks to the builders and the entire project team in front of about 100 invited guests and Ing. Thomas Kohl, Group Leader of the ÖVP in Vienna’s 10th District: “We are delighted to be able to position the topping-out tree and want to thank everyone who has been helping us build Hotel Schani Wien.” Mr. Komarek rounded off the traditional topping out speech given by apprentice Christoph Führer and Site Manager Klaus Enser with the following words: “May this house be a temporary home for our guests and protect them from inclement weather and all danger.”

The building planned by Archisphere architects had previously received the GreenBuilding Award by the European Commission in August. This award is given to commercial properties that include cost-effective ideas for energy efficiency and set an example in sustainable construction. There is significant potential to save energy in the European Union using energy efficiency measures in the heating and cooling of commercial buildings. Thus, Hotel Schani Wien makes use of the latest induction technology by Trox for the entire hotel’s air conditioning. This air conditioning system sucks in air from the room, which the guest cools or warms using a control panel. The advantage is obvious: the system does not use ventilators -- thus, working almost noiselessly and using considerably less energy. In addition, it is low-maintenance.

Hotel Schani Wien

Hotel Schani Wien is the second hotel run by the Komarek family from Ottakring -- Vienna’s 16th District -- after their eco-friendly Hotel Gallitzinberg. This modern hotel with its Viennese charm will open its doors on the site of Vienna’s new Central Station at Quartier Belvedere in Spring 2015. A total of 135 rooms, including 10 studios, a multi-functional lobby and a courtyard garden with a “green oasis” right in the city will await the guests. Managing Director Mag. Bendikt Komarek is continuing his family’s successful hotel tradition with his own trendsetting project and innovative ideas in cooperation with Archisphere architects. You will find regular updates on building progress and the project at www.schanihotels.com.

Umwelthotel Gallitzinberg

Hotel Gallitzinberg was one of Vienna’s first hotels to receive the Austrian Eco Label in 1999. Thanks to its ideal location on the Wilheminenberg, the small, family-run hotel with 12 rooms, four studios and four apartments is ideal for visitors to Vienna wanting to stay in a quiet, green area during their city trip and enjoy the breathtaking view of the city. Following a hearty, organic breakfast buffet with regional products, the guests can decide whether they want to take a hike in the neighbouring Vienna Woods or go sightseeing in the city centre, which is only 20 minutes by public transport. Ideal for business travellers who want to recharge their batteries after a stressful day. www.umwelthotel.at
